Eugene, Oregon
Oregon is statistically the least churched state in the USA. Perhaps it is because people like me don't see the churches connecting the dots. Rabbi Yeshua (a.k.a. Jesus) spoke of radical loving acceptance of the marginalized people in this world. The Pharisees and Sadducees of today fill many of the Christian churches. Where's the love? Where's the acceptance? Where's the liberation?
If you live somewhere near Eugene, let me know. Always looking to connect. |

*raises hand* I've just moved to your fair city!
(Heavens, I hope I'm not being rude retrieving this thread from its 2008 resting-place.) |

Eugene is very beautiful, and in some ways the best small city in America. That said, it is culturally limited to the point of being rather a one-note song. Further, it is not an economic boom-town -- quite the opposite -- the only major employers are U. of O. and government. But thus it is more commendable the beautiful use they've made of their city funds and private properties.
But what are you inquiring after, exactly? Welcome, when you do come. : ) |

Wow, I spent a month or so in Eugene, and that's the last city I lived in before my transition into my current nomadic gospelutionary existence--all of which started when I took a Greyhound bus from Eugene to Compton, CA!

moved since I last posted
I am now living about 70 miles south of Eugene in Roseburg where I am the Education Director at Wildlife Safari. I am planning on heading up to Portland for the 2010 Conference. That may be a good time to connect to local people interested in exploring how to dissect the teachings of Jesus from being appropriated and confused by American nationalism

Would anybody in the Eugene or Roseburg areas want to host a screening of a documentary I made about when I went homeless for 40 days in Chicago? I'm doing a bike tour down the west coast and plan on getting into Eugene May 23-25 and would love to have a conversation about activism with those who are interested. Send me a pm and check out the website at www.LoveisFreeMovie.com

Wish I'd lived here longer and knew more, and could help you! However, I have a couple of ideas: The first (not helpful of me, really, I know): try Craigslist? It's very popular here. The second: We volunteer at a drop-in center for homeless youth here -- they might be interested in letting you use their little space -- anyway I'll talk to the director and shoot you a PM.
